Favorite Quote: “A bad story is still a story, and I think that’s beautiful. There’s no way to lose.” -Alyssa Liu
An interesting fact about Jolie is that she loves collecting Calico Critters and miniature items. She enjoys gathering small keepsakes and random items to add to her journal every day, and she also has a special fondness for red pandas.
Her favorite subject is AP Physics because, although it is challenging, she finds it logical and engaging, and solving problems feels very rewarding. AP Human Geography is another favorite because it has helped her gain a deeper understanding of the world and the patterns that shape it. The most challenging subject for Jolie is the Research Capstone Project because it requires extensive critical thinking and constantly pushes her beyond her comfort zone. She believes the subjects that will prepare her most for life after high school are Research and English, as they develop critical thinking skills and the strong writing abilities needed for university and higher-level academic work.
Outside of school, Jolie was a member of Team Cambodia for FIRST Global Robotics, where she traveled to Panama to compete against teams from more than 190 countries. She has also shared her knowledge of robotics by conducting introductory workshops for children and teenagers. In addition, she has coordinated volunteers for competitions, participated in community service projects that provided school supplies to students across the country, served as Secretary-General for two Model United Nations conferences, and earned the Best Delegate award in Model UN.
Her most memorable moments at AUPPHS-FA were the countless laughs she shared with her friends during lunch breaks and free periods.
After graduating from AUPPHS-FA, Jolie plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Her advice to juniors at AUPPHS-FA: “Every time that a door closes, another one will open!”
