Sovannratanak Tek (Academic Year 2024-2025) – Survived, thrived, derived
Favorite Quote: “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” — Henry Ford (Founder of Ford Motor Company)
An interesting fact about Sovannratanak is that he may not have been the honor-roll kid, but he was definitely the one bringing snacks, sharing notes (even if they were half-wrong), and reminding everyone about the test—after it was already over. His school journey hasn’t been perfect, but it’s been shaped by resilience, family support, and a deep respect for his roots.
His favorite subject was AP Calculus because it challenged him to think logically and solve problems step by step. He enjoys how it pushes him to find patterns and turn abstract ideas into clear solutions. While it can be frustrating when a concept doesn’t click, overcoming those struggles makes the effort worthwhile. His most challenging project was Research Methodology, as it required mastering complex concepts in data collection, analysis, and organization. It strengthened his critical thinking and attention to detail, shaping the way he approaches academic work.
He believes AP Calculus will prepare him best for the future, as it builds discipline, persistence, and problem-solving skills – all of which will serve him well in higher education and his math-related career goals.
Outside the classroom, Sovannratanak enjoyed playing in the basketball club, where he learned teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. His favorite memory at AUPPHS-FA was his very first day, when the warmth and friendliness of his classmates made the school feel like a second home.
After graduation, he plans to study math and business, with the dream of building a global logistics company that connects people and businesses worldwide. By combining his love for math with entrepreneurship, he hopes to create innovative and efficient solutions for the industry.
His advice to juniors: “Persistence really pays off—even when you want to give up after a tough assignment or surprise quiz. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, manage your time wisely, and remember that mistakes are part of learning (and no, pretending your dog ate your homework won’t work here!). Keep pushing forward—you’ll be surprised how far you can go.”
