Senior Student Highlight: Sovannary Sok

Sovannary Sok (Academic Year 2024-2025) – Hectic, Memorable, Nostalgic.
Favorite Quote: ” Some endings are really just beautiful beginnings in disguise.”

An interesting fact about Sovannary is that she finds inspiration in poetry, music, and nature, and she enjoys refreshing yet meaningful conversations with others. She takes great joy in clothing styling, and her top two favorite foods are KitKat and matcha latte.

Her favorite subject during her time at AUPPHS-FA is AP Statistics. She finds it fascinating how statistical concepts can be applied to real-life situations—from analyzing variable relationships to interpreting data and drawing conclusions. It amazes her how this subject supports both research and everyday decision-making.

Her most challenging subject was AP Chemistry, due to its complex and detailed content. Learning about structures, reactions, formulas, and theories was difficult, especially with how much information each unit held. Problem-solving required serious time, patience, and effort to fully grasp.

Sovannary believes Research Capstone will be incredibly valuable after high school, as it helped her realize she could tackle her own questions and curiosities through research. It introduced her to various types of research and built a strong foundation for her future academic and career journey.

Throughout her time at AUPPHS-FA, she participated in community service with family and friends—donating to those in need, planting trees, sharing knowledge, and giving food to rural schools. While she didn’t join many sports, she made daily cycling part of her after-school routine.

Some of her favorite memories were participating in the STEAM Expo—both school and national level. Collaborating with teammates, presenting their projects, and facing fun challenges created unforgettable moments. She also loved the Halloween and Christmas events, where she got to dress up, enjoy performances, and make fun memories with friends.

After graduation, Sovannary plans to pursue a degree in Psychological Science—a field that has long fascinated her. She’s eager to explore its many branches and discover how psychology can improve lives and support mental well-being. Her goal is to deeply understand psychological theories and their practical applications in hopes of finding where her true passion lies.

A valuable lesson she’s learned at AUPPHS-FA—and one she’d love to share with juniors—is: “You should always address your doubts when faced with any because accumulated uncertainties will only make learning more difficult and hinder progress. Seeking out for guidance and support from classmates and teachers is essential when you struggle during your high school years as it helps you both academically and personally.”
