Senior Student Highlight: Sokpisoth Phal

Sokpisoth Phal (Academic Year 2024-2025) – STRESSFUL FUN GROWTH
Favorite Quote: “Education is important, but big naps are importanter.”

An interesting fact about Sokpisoth is that he has hypermobility—he can bend his fingers all the way back to touch the back of his palm. It looks a bit freaky, but he thinks it’s fun. He also really enjoys traveling, exploring new places, trying different foods, and experiencing something different from his daily routine. When he’s not traveling, you’ll usually find him at home playing video games, one of his favorite ways to relax.

His favorite subject was English because it gave him the chance to express himself in creative ways. Whether reading stories, writing essays, or joining class discussions, he enjoyed how there wasn’t just one “right” answer. The most challenging project for him was the AP Research Capstone. It felt never-ending with constant research, writing, and revisions, but it was also rewarding. Choosing his own topic and producing original results gave him a sense of pride, despite the workload.

Outside of academics, Sokpisoth has played basketball, badminton, and volleyball, which kept him active and taught him teamwork. He also joined community service projects, like helping at charity events, which gave him a sense of fulfillment. His favorite memories at AUPPHS-FA are the simple moments—hanging out with friends, laughing during breaks, and going on field trips full of fun and energy.

After graduation, Sokpisoth plans to continue growing his business while also studying at the American University of Phnom Penh. He’s excited to pursue both his education and personal goals.

His advice to juniors at AUPPHS-FA: “Things won’t always go the way you planned, and that’s okay. There will be stress, deadlines, and unexpected problems, but you’ll get through them if you stay consistent and ask for help when you need it. Don’t be afraid to speak up, take chances, and enjoy the little moments, because time really does go by fast.”
