Senior Student Highlight: Lykeo Lam

Lykeo Lam (Academic Year 2024-2025) – Friday is near!
Favorite Quote: “Drink warm water, it’s good for you.”

An interesting fact about Lykeo is that she can do a cloverleaf tongue! Her favorite subject at AUPPHS-FA is Research Capstone. Despite being content-heavy and one of her most demanding courses, she finds it incredibly rewarding. She shared that her teacher, Dr. Hudson, has been an amazing guide throughout the process.

She elaborated that with so many variables to consider, concepts to grasp, and learning how to operationalize them—plus compiling large amounts of writing into a final paper—the experience is challenging, but in a fulfilling way. She believes the skills she’s gained will serve as a strong foundation for future academic and professional work. While the papers (Paper 1 and Paper 2) take nearly a semester to plan, research, and write, she says they’re more tedious and time-consuming than difficult—but definitely require focus and care.

The two subjects she believes will prepare her most after high school are AP Economics and Research Capstone. She sees economics in everyday life and decision-making, while Capstone has shaped how she evaluates sources, questions statements, and analyzes information critically.

Lykeo’s most memorable moments at AUPPHS-FA come from the time spent with classmates, close friends, and teachers she connected with. She’s grown and learned so much, and while there’s more she could say, she knows she’ll truly miss the AUPPHS-FA community.

Lykeo has also been deeply involved in extracurriculars. One of her proudest accomplishments is founding and serving as President of the Cambodian Debate League, a nonprofit initiative that gives young Cambodians a platform to develop debate and critical thinking skills. Under her leadership, the organization supported charities like the Coconut School in Kirirom and the Cambodia Kantha Bopha Children’s Foundation. They’ve also partnered with the European Union, Manulife Cambodia, SpringBoard4Education, and the AUPP community to host impactful events.

Additionally, Lykeo contributed to Mental HUB, a USAID- and Circular Digital Lab-supported project promoting mental health awareness in school communities. She also served as Secretary-General of the Model UN program, helping students grow in diplomacy, leadership, and global awareness.

After graduation, Lykeo plans to pursue higher education.

Her advice to juniors: “Nobody has it all figured out—and that’s okay. But don’t get too comfortable with having nothing figured out.”
