Senior Student Highlight: Annikka Khut

Annikka Khut (Academic Year 2025-2026) – Live, the, Moment

Favorite Quote: “And those who were seen dancing, were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music” – Friedrich Nietzsche

An interesting fact about Annikka is that her sister considers her the best Shin Ramyeon maker. As a child, she secretly dreamed of auditioning for The Voice Kids, and her favorite fruit is mangosteen.

Her favorite subject is Microeconomics because, for the first time, solving multiple-choice and free-response questions felt genuinely fun. Mr. Radley left a lasting impression on the entire class through the thoughtful way he guided their learning journey, especially since most of them were studying economics for the first time. English has also been one of Annikka’s favorite subjects throughout high school. She sees it as a class where she can integrate her own thoughts, perspectives, and interpretations into academic work. This appreciation was strengthened during her junior year by Mr. Dennis, whose enthusiasm made the subject even more engaging.

The most challenging subject for Annikka was AP Biology. She particularly struggled with Unit 3, Cellular Energetics, while preparing for the 2025 AP Exam. The unit explores complex biological systems in great depth, making it both content-heavy and highly technical. She believes that words are one of the most valuable assets a person can have. Knowing how to communicate effectively is essential in everything from everyday conversations to professional responsibilities. English helps students develop these skills by encouraging analytical thinking, critical interpretation, and effective communication. While both English and Research Capstone will prepare her well for higher education, she believes English will remain useful in every aspect of her life.

Outside of school, Annikka dedicated much of her time to debate, aligning with her goal of pursuing a career in law. Over the years, she became deeply involved in the debate community. She was selected for the Team Cambodia WSDC Development Squad 2025, giving her the opportunity to represent Cambodia internationally while undergoing extensive training throughout the year. She currently serves as a department head for the Cambodian Debate League, a youth-led nonprofit organization, where she works alongside Lykeo, an AUPPHS-FA alumnus, to support Cambodia’s debate circuit and give back to the community. Her debate journey has also led her to serve as a judge, assistant coach, and mentor. Additionally, during the summer of her junior year, she gained valuable professional experience as an intern at a law firm.

Her most memorable moments at AUPPHS-FA were those spent with her friends, filled with laughter, shared smiles, and unforgettable memories. She also cherishes her time in Student Council, where every project brought both challenges and rewarding experiences that she will always remember.

After graduating from AUPPHS-FA, Annikka plans to begin the next chapter of her journey toward a career in law. Her goal is to pursue a Juris Doctor degree in the United States and eventually become a legal practitioner. Her advice to juniors at AUPPHS-FA: “Always be grateful for the present. It’s important to appreciate everything around you because nothing lasts forever. Look around at your friends, familiar faces, memories, and inside jokes. Be grateful that they are part of your present. One day things will change, so while you have the chance, make the most of every moment. Carpe Diem!”
