Senior Student Highlight: Lan Sin Monik

Lan Sin Monik (Academic Year 2025-2026) – Memorable, Overwhelming, Impactful

Favorite Quote: “And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good.” -John Steinbeck, East of Eden

An interesting fact about Monik is that she is often described as someone who enjoys “bougie grandma” activities. She is frequently seen collecting ceramics and bringing homemade baked goods wherever she goes.

The subjects Monik has always been most fond of are those that allow her to express her thoughts and ideas, particularly English and Research Capstone, which she finds especially enjoyable. One of her most memorable classes was Art during her junior year, as it broadened her perspective on creativity and pushed her beyond her comfort zone. Although she never considered herself particularly skilled at traditional art, Ms. Josephine taught her that art is much more than drawing. The most challenging subject for Monik is AP Microeconomics. She believes that Research Capstone is the subject that will prepare her most for life after high school, especially considering her intended fields of study in law and culinary arts. The course has strengthened her critical analysis skills, which are essential in the legal profession, while also encouraging her to explore innovative ideas influenced by culture and society.

Outside of school, Monik completed an internship at a law firm, where she gained insight into the work of lawyers across different divisions. She has also attended numerous Model United Nations conferences with inspiring peers, experiences that have broadened her understanding of global and political issues and helped prepare her for the future. In addition, she takes Spanish lessons regularly and participated in an exchange program in Fukuoka, where she met many wonderful people and gained valuable experiences. Her most memorable moments at AUPPHS-FA were the laughter and memories she shared with her friends during lunch breaks and free periods. After graduating from AUPPHS-FA, Monik plans to perfect her croquembouche-making skills and spend quality time with her family and friends before moving abroad to pursue her Juris Doctor degree. Her advice to juniors at AUPPHS-FA: “Don’t worry juniors, your niche and beautiful university awaits you.”
